Julian waited patiently in the living room. His feet were propped up on the coffee table, hands holding a perfect cup of hot coffee. His eyes drooped lazily as if he were about to fall asleep. He was waiting for the doctor. The phone he had used to call the man remained on the table next to the chair he was sitting in. He had no energy to take it back to the charging dock. The Grandfather clock chimed once or twice at the new hour and Julian let out an impatient huff. Doctors were supposed to be on time. He took a sip of his coffee and hissed as the hot liquid burned his tongue. “Ow.” He sat up and set the coffee down on the table. He had half a mind to dial the familiar number again and ask what was taking so long when the doorbell rang.
He wasn’t going to lie to himself about this. Because, in Dane’s opinion, going to Julian’s house in the middle of the night was very weird. For multiple reasons. For one, Dane would have never suspected that he would have been making house calls. Especially not for a man who he had no real inclination of what his job was and for a matter that he was positive did not need medical attention. Not to mention, the time of night and the fact that he was exhausted after a fourteen hour long shift. And yet, Dane was still going over to Julian’s. A tiny part of him was even perhaps excited about it. There was no denying that Julian was mysterious and intriguing but Dane was quick to push those matters aside. What did it matter, right?
Exhaling slowly, Dane rubbed his eyes, hoping to clear the sleepy haze from them as he glanced up at the front of Julian’s house. And without another pause, he rang the doorbell. Now was as good a time as any to find out just what Julian was up to. Even if all Dane wanted to do was get some sleep.
